The best natural treatment for herpes simplex virus is peppermint. I’ll explain. I had someone write to me the other day asking me for information on why one of her friends rants and raves how she has remained symptom free of outbreaks of the herpes simplex virus since using our clay mask, “Nature’s Transdermal Facefoodtm”.
I told her that the short answer is that it contains a quality concentration of peppermint, but the most important part is this. Peppermint is only effective at preventing outbreaks. It is not effective after an outbreak occurrence. So using a product that infuses your skin with a little peppermint on a regular basis is the most effective preventative for the herpes simplex virus known to science. Years ago during the research and development of our product line I read an important study on the effects of peppermint oil for reducing the outbreaks of the herpes simplex virus. [Virucidal effect of peppermint oil on the enveloped viruses herpes simplex virus type 1 and type 2 in vitro. Phytomedicine: International Journal of Phytotherapy & Phytopharmacology| July 01, 2003 | Schuhmacher, A.; Reichling, J.; Schnitzler, P.]
Briefly I’ll summarize this study and give you my real world opinion.
In this study the researchers used a plaque reduction assay test (What that means is when a virus causes the death of a cell the virus causes a plaque in the cell monolayer so you can count the layers of plaque to determine the level of virus. The more plaque layers the higher the level of virus.)
The researchers applied the peppermint oil at different times. They wanted to see if the peppermint was effective before and after the virus took over a host cell.
What they found out is this. Peppermint eliminated the viruses ability to take over a host cell by 99%. And was effective on HSV-1 and HSV-2. However it was not effective after the virus invaded the host cell.
So peppermint is a great preventative for herpes simplex virus 1 and 2.
If you suffer from an outbreak of herpes you are going to end up in a doctors office (unless its mild) and probably prescribed one of two drugs, acyclovir or pencyclovir. Both of these drugs are effective but increasingly because of more peoples immune systems becoming compromised (no surprise there with the increasing amounts of toxic exposure in our everyday environment). There are now strains of the virus that are resistant to the drugs.
Another of this studies significance is that peppermint was effective on a drug resistant form of the virus. I think that is really cool. Think about it, peppermint can prevent a drug resistant strain. Go look at some pictures of herpes and you will understand the importance of prevention.
Peppermint has already been proven to kill gram negative and postive bacteria but this study clearly proves its ability to be effective against viruses.
Okay so now for my real world opinion on this herb. You don’t need large concentrations of the herb for effects. You just need small amounts of the herb infused into the areas around where the outbreaks are.
Actually if you start rubbing peppermint oil on your skin for an extended period of time you are going to cause irritation and swap one problem for another.
The best product for prevention would be our clay face mask “Nature’s Transdermal Facefoodtm” used 2 – 4 times a week it will infuse a superior form of extracted peppermint into your skin and give you just the right amount for an excellent preventative. As a side note this mask can be applied anywhere externally on your body. (Also the quality of the peppermint used in the study was excellent. We do our own extraction of peppermint giving you one of the best produced anywhere in the world. Ours is free of toxins and fully potent unlike most being sold in the marketplace.)
Plus this clay face mask will do so much more. There isn’t a mask that does more for your skin than this one. If you haven’t checked it out you should, go to natures-skin-and-body-food.com
Wishing you great health and ageless beauty
